Terms & Conditions

UMALI (PTY) LTD · Reg: 2026/295924/07 · Last updated: September 2026

These terms govern your use of the UMALI platform, whether as a member, a burial society administrator, or a funeral home. By creating an account, you agree to these terms.

1. What UMALI Is

UMALI is a technology platform that helps funeral homes and burial societies manage member registration, contributions, and claims. UMALI provides the software and interface only — it is not an insurer, does not underwrite funeral cover, and does not hold or control any funds at any point.

2. Payments

All payments made through UMALI are processed by Ozow, a licensed South African payment service provider. Each funeral home is independently verified and settled directly by Ozow, in its own name and into its own bank account. UMALI has no access to, and cannot amend, any funeral home's settlement details or merchant credentials.

3. Funeral Home Subscriptions

Funeral homes using the UMALI platform pay a separate monthly subscription fee for continued access to the platform's tools (member management, dashboards, automated reminders, and claims tracking). This fee is entirely separate from, and not deducted from, any member payments. Non-payment of the subscription fee may result in suspended access to the platform until payment is received.

4. Member Responsibilities

5. Funeral Home and Society Admin Responsibilities

6. Claims

UMALI provides the technology to submit, track, and record funeral claims. The decision to approve or decline a claim, and the obligation to pay out an approved claim, rests entirely with the relevant funeral home or burial society — not with UMALI.

7. Limitation of Liability

UMALI provides the platform on an "as is" basis. While we take reasonable care to keep the platform secure and functioning correctly, UMALI is not liable for:

8. Account Suspension and Termination

UMALI may suspend or terminate access to the platform for any account found to be providing false information, engaging in fraudulent activity, or violating these terms.

9. Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of the platform after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

10. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa.

These terms were prepared as a working draft based on UMALI's current business model and are not a substitute for review by a qualified South African attorney. Given that UMALI operates in the funeral and financial-services-adjacent space, we recommend formal legal review before wide public launch, particularly around liability and licensing clauses.
